Chidambaram urges to postpone IPLMarch 3rd, 2009 - 11:23 pm ICT by ANI
New Delhi, Mar 3 (ANI): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday said the dates of the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament should be rescheduled that clashes with the general elections.
The dates of the IPL tournament and general elections are clashing. I have asked to find out if the dates of the IPL can be rescheduled. It would be great if the tournament starts when the bulk of the polls are over, Chidambaram said.
The minister said that sharing security between polls and IPL is a matter of concern.
The Government and the Indian Premier League (IPL) will review the schedule for the second edition of the Twenty20 league on Wednesday with Home Ministry officials maintaining that it would ask the organisers to reschedule the tourney.
His statement came after at least eight Sri Lankan cricket players were reportedly injured on Tuesday morning when some unidentified persons opened firing at the visitors near the Gaddafi stadium here.
The multi-million dollar Twenty20 tournament is due to be played from April 10 to May 24, while the parliamentary elections will be held in five phases between April 16 and May 13. (ANI)
