Chidambaram to visit Assam today
November 12th, 2010 - 11:52 am ICT by ANINew Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): Home Minister P Chidambaram will undertake a day-long visit to Assam today to review the law and order situation in the wake of killings by National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants and the proposed dialogue with ULFA.
He will also hold a meeting with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, his cabinet colleagues and top civil and security officials.
Chidambaram is likely to suggest the security agencies in Assam to launch an all-out joint offensive against the perpetrators of the recent series of violence.
The Army, paramilitary forces and state police forces will take part in the operation against the ultras.
Chidambaram visit’s bears significance, as he will be accompanied by Centre’s interlocutor P C Haldar, who has been engaged with informal talks with jailed ULFA leaders including Arabinda Rajkhowa.
At least 24 civilians have been gunned down by NDFB militants in a series of attacks in Sonitpur, Udalguri and Baksa districts since Monday. (ANI)
