New Delhi , Dec. 17 (ANI): Home Minister P Chidambaram urges Bangladesh to honour its commitment to act against terror groups as India was convinced that Indian Insurgent groups continue to find a safe haven in Bangladesh .
Addressing Rajya Sabha here on Wednesday, Chidambaram said that India will use every instrument on its part especially diplomacy to prevail upon Bangladesh to work with it in stopping terrorism and militancy.
Chidambaram said, “There is a mutual legal treaty between India and Bangladesh . Nevertheless we are not happy with the situation where we are convinced that Indian Insurgent groups continue to find safe havens in Bangladesh . That is why I said that this matter needs to be addressed seriously. As I said little while ago we will use every instrument on our part especially diplomacy to prevail upon Bangladesh to work with us in stopping terrorism and militancy. There is not an elected government in Bangladesh today. There will I hope be an elected government by the end of this month and we will take it up with that government seriously”.
Last month’’s attack in Mumbai, in which about 200 people were killed, was the most high profile but there have also been bombings in the remote northeast which India says were mostly planned inside Bangladesh.(ANI)
