Chidambaram congratulates Delhi police for CWG foolproof security
October 16th, 2010 - 1:21 pm ICT by ANIDelhi, Oct 16 (ANI): Home Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday praised Delhi Police Commissioner Y. S Dadwal for doing a tremendous job of providing flaw-less security during the XIX Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
In a letter to Dadwal, Chidambaram said: “I wish to express my deep appreciation of the splendid achievement of the Delhi police in making foolproof security arrangements for the commonwealth games.”
“I offer you and your team– down to the newly recruited constables– my warm congratulations rising to the occasion and for winning the gratitude of everyone concerned, especially the athletes and spectators,” he added.
“But for the foolproof security arrangements, the Commonwealth Games would not have been the success that they turned out to be. I know that you were ably assisted by several men and women of the CPMFs. I would like to convey my appreciation and thanks to the CPMFs too,” he said.
Chidambaram further said: ” I also wish to compliment the venue commanders at the games venue, training venues and the games villages.
The mega sporting event witnessed large-scale deployment of security forces.
Twenty eight thousand state policemen and 20,000 CRPF personnel were deployed for the Games duties at the eleven CWG venues, the Games Village and other key locations.
The Delhi Police had several new additions - 12,000 new recruits and 123 dogs in their dog squad - before the Games.
Some 1,500 commandos from the NSG, paramilitary forces and Delhi Police were at deployed at the stadiums and the Village.
For the first time in India, devices to detect CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) assaults had also been deployed at key venues.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed its sophisticated radars to scan Delhi skies while UAVS kept a watch for air intrusions. IAF helicopters also hovered over the spacious Village that housed the sportspersons. (ANI)
