Lucknow, Jan 2(ANI): Son of late former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, Neeraj Shekhar has won the prestigious Ballia Lok Sabha seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket.
The Parliamentary constituency had fallen vacant after Chandra Sekhar’s demise on July 8, 2007. He was suffering from multiple myeloma, a form of cancer of the plasma cell.
Neeraj Shekhar defeated Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP’s) Vinay Shankar Tewari by over 1,30,000 votes. He got 2,95,000 votes in his favour, while the BJP’s Virendra Singh and Congress’ Rajiv Upadhya lost their deposits.
Both polled over 22,000 and over 10,000 votes respectively.
The polling was held in the constituency on December 29. (ANI)
