Centre would enhance security to safeguard Indians in Kabul: Krishna

Bangalore, Mar 6 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Saturday said that India has decided to upgrade the level of security cover and allied set up for Indians in Afghanistan following the recent assault on them in Kabul.
“I can only broadly say that we are enhancing the degree of security at the level of Secretary to our employees in the Kabul embassy. Beyond that I think security concerns cannot be discussed,” said Krishna.
He also mentioned that no staff of Indian embassy in Kabul wanted to return, but the Central Government would consider any transfer requests if received.
Taliban fighters had opened fire, hurled grenades and staged suicide bombings in central Kabul last month killing at least 17 persons including nine Indians.
One of the main targets of the attack was the Noor Guesthouse, which housed the Indian medical mission and an army training team.
Further clarifying that India has no issues with China, Krishna said that he would be leaving for Beijing in April to inaugurate the yearlong celebration of Indian Culture.
“As far as my knowledge there are no tensions between India and China. I think we have a very cooperative, constructive relationship with China and we intend to continue with that. I am looking forward to my own visit to China sometime next month,” he added.
Reports of frequent Chinese incursions in Indian media had strained ties between two Asian giants. (ANI)
