Bangalore, June 14 (ANI): Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government was considering a suitable amendment in the National Disaster Management Act to strengthen the civil defence organizations in the country.
Speaking after inaugurating the International Conference on Disaster Management in Bangalore, he said the amendment aims to increase the jurisdiction and power of civil defence organisations.It would also improve their preparedness to counter any disaster in the country.
A fund at national level along with eight battalions of trained Para Military forces was present to counter any disaster, Patil added.
He emphasised on the need for increasing awareness among the policy makers, policy implementing authorities and general public about the dos and donts of managing disasters.(ANI)
