Centre seeks detailed report on Bajrang Dal, other communal organisationsNovember 13th, 2008 - 3:56 pm ICT by ANI
New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): The Union Home Ministry has asked States to compile a list of incidents of communal violence in recent times and the names of people who had been found to be involved.
The UPA Government under pressure from allies to ban the Hindutva outfit asked all state governments to send a detailed report on the role of the Bajrang Dal in communal incidents and action taken.
Commenting on a questions about the Minstry of Home Affairs writing to the States regarding inputs on Bajrang Dal, the MHA spokesman said: Some incidents of communal violence have taken place in some parts of the country recently. This has led to demands for strict action against the individuals and groups involved in the incidents.
In this regard, MHA has written to the State Governments and sought details of the action they may have taken, the spokesman added.
In a letter sent on Wednesday evening, the Home Ministry asked for a report on all incidents of communal violence not just those in which the Bajrang Dal was said to be involved.
The Home Ministry asked states to be tough on communal organisations including the Bajrang Dal in the wake of violence against Christians in Orissa, Karnataka and Kerala.
The UPA Government convened a special meeting of the Union Cabinet in September after a string of communal clashes in some states, where the activities of Bajrang Dal came up for discussion.
The Centre had issued strong advisories to Orissa and Karnataka directing them to rein in outfits spreading communal hatred. (ANI)
