Central government soft on terror, Kashmir separatism: AdvaniDecember 20th, 2008 - 6:36 pm ICT by IANS
Jammu, Dec 20 (IANS) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishan Advani Saturday accused the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre of being soft on terror and the separatist movement in Jammu and Kashmir.Addressing an election rally on a rain drenched day in this winter capital of the state, Advani said the central government’s soft approach towards terrorism and separatism was “no less a sin”.
The state is going to the polls for a new assembly over seven phases. The last phase is scheduled Dec 24. Thirteen constituencies in the Hindu dominated Jammu region are going to polls in the final round. Votes will be counted Dec 28.
Raking up the Amarnath land row during the rally, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate said the agitation launched by people of Jammu for restoration of land to a Hindu temple trust was an “unparalleled mass movement witnessed by the country which was in a way manifestation of feeling of discrimination against Jammu”.
He said he “bows before the people of Jammu for launching such a massive struggle” for the restoration of land to Amarnath cave temple.
Advani pointed out that the death sentence to Kashmiri militant Afzal Guru for his involvement in the Dec 13, 2001 attack on India’s parliament was not being executed, though the government was “not giving any reason for it”.
“The government has a soft approach on terrorism,” he said, adding that “discrimination” against the people of Jammu was “strengthening hands of separatists”.
He asked the people to vote for BJP candidates for “restoration of self-respect, dignity and honour of Jammu”.
