CBI willing to probe Batcha’s death

New Delhi, Apr 1 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday told the Supreme Court that it is ready to probe the mysterious death of former Telecom Minister A Raja’s aide, Sadiq Batcha.

Senior advocate K K Venugopal, who appeared for the CBI said: “The CBI has expressed its willingness to take over the investigation into Batcha’s death.”

An apex court bench of Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly asked Additional Solicitor General Indira to take instructions from the Central Government and inform it about the issuance of a notification for transferring the case to the CBI by Monday.

The CBI also brought to the notice of the court that senior advocate U U Lalit will be appointed as special public prosecutor for the trial in the 2G spectrum case before a special court exclusively set up for the purpose.

The court asked the law officer to take instructions and inform it by April 5 on notification on appointment of the special public prosecutor.

Batcha, 39, was found hanging in his home in Chennai on March 16.

He was the Managing Director of Greenhouse Promoters, a firm under the scanner of CBI and Enforcement Directorate in connection with the 2G spectrum scam. (ANI)
