CBI to reinvestigate Malegaon blast case
January 13th, 2011 - 9:16 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Jan 13 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to reinvestigate the 2006 Malegaon blast case and will file a petition in this regard in Nashik court soon.
The investigating agency has decided to reopen the case due to fresh statements made by prime suspect Swami Aseemanand, and is expected to question him in the case at a later date.
“The agency will also look into the arrest of nine people by the Maharashtra Police’s Anti-Terror Squad (ATS),” NDTV quoted CBI sources, as saying.
Thirty-one people were killed and another 312 injured in Malegaon blast on September 8, 2006. The case was later transferred to CBI.
Aseemanand was arrested on November 19, 2010 for his alleged involvement in the Ajmer, Hyderabad and Samjhauta Express blasts, which all took place in the year 2007.
Aseemanand also revealed that his alleged right hand man, Sunil Joshi, who was murdered in mysterious circumstances in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh on December 29, 2007, was behind the Malegaon bombing of September 2006.
Aseemanand had earlier spilled the beans on RSS leader Indresh’s alleged connections with terror acts. (ANI)
