According to CBI spokesperson, Harsh Bhal, the investigation team arrested Hiralal Mahato native of Rasua village, in Midnapore District.
He was produced before the Jhargram Court.
Bhal said the CBI has requested the court to apply Sections 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), as the investigative agency has enough evidence against Mahato for his involvement in such activities.
The Court remanded Mahato to ten days’ police custody.
Mahato is the first arrest after the CBI took over the investigations.
Reportedly, Mahato is associated with the Maoists’ frontal organization the People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA).
Bhal said the whole operation of arresting the accused was done in close co-operation with the West Bengal Police.
On June 9, the CBI had taken over the investigation of the case and has registered a case.
On May 28, the 2102 Howrah-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Gyaneshwari Express was derailed and collided with a goods train killing over 150 people due to a sabotage caused by the Maoists near Jhargram. (ANI)
