Casualties across India in anti-Terrorist drive
August 11th, 2010 - 9:03 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Aug.11 (ANI): The Government on Wednesday gave a detail of the total number of incidents, casualties of civilians, security personnel and number of terrorist/extremist killed in the State of Jammu & Kashmir and North-Eastern States.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today said that in Jammu and Kashmir, at least 75 personnel of the Security Forces and 91 civilians died and 339 terrorists were killed in the 708 incidents which occured during 2008
At least 64 personnel of the Security Forces and 78 civilians died and 239 terrorists were killed in the 499 incidents during 2009 in the State.
Whereas at least 34 personnel of the Security Forces and 20 civilians died and 114 terrorists have been killed in the 254 incidents which occured during 2010 (upto June 30).
He furnther informed that in the North Eastern States, at least 46 personnel of the Security Forces and 466 civilians died and 640 militants/terrorists were killed in the 1561 incidents which occured during 2008.
At least 42 personnel of the Security Forces and 264 civilians died and 571 militants/terrorists were killed in the 1297 incidents occurred during 2009.
Whereas at least four personnel of the Security Forces and 44 civilians died and 160 militants/ terrorists have been killed in the 397 incidents which occured during 2010 (upto July 15).
In the year 2008, major terrorist incidents/bomb blasts occurred at CRPF Group Centre, Rampur (U.P.), Jaipur, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Malegaon (Maharashtra) and Modasa (Gujarat).
In these incidents 168 persons lost their lives.
In the terrorist attack in Mumbai in November, 2008, 164 persons lost their lives. There was no major terrorist attack in the year 2009. However, a bomb blast took place at Pune on 13.2.2010 wherein 17 persons were killed. (ANI)
