Canadian minister visits India to boost economic, education ties
June 3rd, 2010 - 11:51 am ICT by ANINew Delhi, June 3 (ANI): Rob Norris, Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour from the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, is visiting India June 01 - 10 with a delegation of government, industry, science and university officials.
The team includes representatives from the University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina, Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST), Canadian Light Source, Genome Prairie and Saskatchewan Pulse Growers.
Aimed at increasing economic and educational ties between India and Saskatchewan, this 10-day mission will include a series of meetings in Bangalore, Chennai and New Delhi.
The team will meet with Indian Ministers, government officials, business leaders, academics and policy experts. The delegation will also participate in Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Seminar, one of the largest bio-technology conferences in India, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Chennai on June 4, 2010.
Sharing his thoughts about the India visit, Minister Norris said, “Saskatchewan is home to one third of Canada’s agriculture bio-tech sector. This mission is an excellent opportunity to attract investment and entrepreneurship to our province. As one of Canada’s most dynamic provinces, Saskatchewan now does more trade with India than any other Canadian province with major exports including potash and pulse crops.”
Minister Norris added, “Through enhanced partnerships, Saskatchewan and India will strengthen their emerging leadership role in the global economy.” (ANI)
