Burns ward at Delhi’s RML Hospital upgraded

New Delhi, Apr 8(ANI): Union Health and Family Welfare Secretary K. Chandramouli on Friday inaugurated the upgraded burns ward in the Department of Burns, Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery at New Delhi’s Dr. RML Hospital on World Health Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Chandramouli emphasized the need to upgrade the hospital facilities and providing excellent services to patients.

The upgraded twenty-two bedded burns ward is equipped with latest life saving and patient care equipment including a four bedded ICU, a minor operation theatre and dressing rooms.

The strength of senior and junior Residents in the department has been increased to eight and 12 respectively.

“Patient care has been further augmented by starting a regular Operation Theatre under General anesthesia exclusively for patients of burns. Sophisticated and latest operative equipments have also been added to improve surgical care for burns patients,” the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a statement.

India has an estimated annual burn incidence of six-seven million, based on data from major hospitals when extrapolated to whole of the country.

This is the second largest group of injuries after road accidents.

Nearly 10 percent of these are life threatening and require hospitalization. (ANI)
