Gangtok, July 21 (ANI): Buddhist monks and devotees participated in a procession to commemorate the birth anniversary of Buddhist patron saint, Guru Padmasambhava, in Gangtok, Sikkim.

Guru Padmasambhava is adored in Sikkim and is also referred to as Guru Rinpoche.

Devotees carried a newly sculpted life size, golden statue of Guru Padmasambhava from the Chorten Gompa monastery in a solemn procession.

Eminent dignitaries offered ‘khadas’ (long silk scarves) and prayers at the statue of Guru Padmasambhava.

“I feel this is an opportunity to think good about God and goodness about life. I think it is very important for us Buddhists to concentrate more on good things rather then the worst things,” said Pemba Tshering Sherpa, a devotee.

The holy procession was organised jointly by the Guru Trungkar Tsechu Committee and Sikkim Buddhist Duechen Organization.

Buddhist followers also carried sacred Buddhist texts on their shoulders, and walked around the monastery as part of a ritual. (ANI)
