BSF chief blames Pakistan for infiltration

October 4th, 2008 - 1:19 pm ICT by IANS -

Jammu, Oct 4 (IANS) Border Security Force (BSF) Director General M.L. Kumawat has accused Pakistani troops of repeatedly opening fire on Indian security forces in recent weeks to help infiltrators cross into India. After conducting a review of the situation on the international border Friday, Kumawat told reporters that infiltrators had made frequent bids to cross into the Indian side in the past few weeks but failed due to the counter offensive of the BSF troopers.

“Frequent infiltration attempts are a serious matter. We have taken certain measures at the sensitive spots and we will take more measures to pre-empt the Pakistani attempts to facilitate infiltration. Pakistani troops provide cover fire to infiltrators,” he said.

“The infiltration is aimed at causing problems during the polls in the state and we will make all out efforts to stem this menace,” he added.

This was Kumawat’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after taking over as director general on Oct 1.
