BSA Motors launches its new electric scooters at Delhi Auto Expo
January 8th, 2010 - 2:02 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Jan 8 (ANI): BSA Motors, a strategic business unit of Chennai-based and Murugappa owned Tube Investments of India (TII) launched its next generation electric scooter named ‘Edge’ at the Auto Expo 2010 here on Thursday.
Alongside this launch, the company also unveiled India’s first electric scooter named ‘Roamer Able’, designed exclusively for the differently-abled persons.
Besides, the company also showcased the technological might with a display of several electric scooters and fast charging systems from their factory.
“We now have 80 dealerships across eight states and we want to take to 200 dealerships in 15 states this year. And the customer response to our product is very positive. We are going to spread the base of dealership that we have,” said K B Srinivasan, Vice President, BSA Motors, Chennai.
‘Edge’, the newest addition in the company’s e-scooter portfolio, is attractively priced at 35500 rupees and it is available in four attractive colours.
With ‘Roamer Able’, the company has introduced the first ever in-built reverse mechanism, which enables the rider to reverse the vehicle with the ease of a switch.’Roamer Able’ will be launched in the Indian market by the end of the month and will be priced 35300 rupees. It will be available in four eclectic colours.
The first of its kind in India, ‘Roamer Able’ has an independent rear suspension which offers the rider a stable ride and provides adjustable rear shock absorbers for a smooth ride. It also comes with a speed selection switch and has a motor power of 500 watts.’Roamer Able’ can reach a maximum speed of 40 kmph in power mode and 25 kmph in economy mode. Its unique reversing feature makes parking easier for the differently-abled.The battery is completely maintenance free and takes approximately six to eight hours of recharge time.
“We believe it is a good product and time has come. This product will save the environment and will save the money for the users and the future is electric and they are leading the market,” added Srinivasan.
Presently, the company is in the early stages of developing advanced motor controller technology, which aims to provide higher speed, power and efficiency to their products.
At the Auto Expo 2010, BSA Motors has also showcased its existing line of products - Smile, Diva, Street Rider, Roamer (NXG) and Roamer (NUO). (ANI)
