Brown to visit India for a dayDecember 13th, 2008 - 4:52 pm ICT by ANI
New Delhi (ANI): British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will arrive here this evening to further diplomatic ties between India and the UK, especially in a scenario that has developed after the Mumbai attacks.
The increase in tensions between India and Pakistan after the Mumbai attack has attracted the attention of political heavyweights like the US and the UK.
With the United States offering all help to India in its fight against terrorism, the UK has shown its solidarity with India as well.
Britain has already sent a special team of police that has expertise in dealing with terrorism.
Brown, will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during which the Indian side is expected to share evidence about the involvement of Pakistan-based terrorists in the attack.
Soon after the Mumbai strikes on November 26, Brown had spoken to PM Manmohan Singh and sent message to him, expressing outrage over the incident and asserting that the attacks should be met with a “vigorous response”.
He had said then that UK stands solidly with India as “they respond” and that his government was ready to offer any kind of help.
The attacks were a reminder of the threat from violent extremists and UK and India will continue their joint efforts to counter the actions of terrorists, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said.(ANI)
