London, Sept 17 (ANI): The author of Brokeback Mountain, Annie Proulx has claimed that the book, which was turned into the Oscar-winning movie, is now a source of constant irritation in her life.

The 76-year-old writer said that she gets flooded with pornish letters sent by fans of the book.

The book, published in 1999, traces the story of two cowboys and their illicit homosexual passions in Americas conservative Midwest.

While the book was praised for its delicate handling of homophobia, it also received criticism by many, who felt Proulx could have gone further in describing the love shared between the two main characters.

There are countless people out there who think the story is open range to explore their fantasies and to correct what they see as an unbearably disappointing story, The Telegraph quoted her, as telling The Wall Street Journal.

She added: “They constantly send ghastly manuscripts and pornish rewrites of the story to me, expecting me to reply with praise and applause for fixing the story. They certainly dont get the message that if you cant fix it, youve got to stand it.

Brokeback Mountain has had little effect on my writing life, but is the source of constant irritation in my private life.

The 2005 film, starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, received critical acclaim and was nominated for eight Academy Awards, out of which it won three. (ANI)
