British mans earlier admission to having sex on Dubai beach may nail him
September 2nd, 2008 - 1:52 pm ICT by ANILondon, Sept 2 (ANI): In the ongoing sex on the beach case in Dubai, it has emerged that British man Vince Acors had formerly admitted to having had sex on the Jumeirah Beach.
Acors, 34, from Bromley, southeast London had initially told the police that he had had full intercourse with fellow Briton Michelle Palmer, 36, but later changed his statement and denied it, as revealed by senior prosecutor Faisal Abdelmalek Ahli.
A policeman had caught Palmer, a publishing executive from Oakham, Leicestershire, and Acors in the act, and had at first issued them a warning, but when he passed their way again and saw that they had not stopped, he arrested them.
The couple had been seen on a beach near the luxury Burj Al Arab hotel in the early hours of July 5, and Mr Ahli, of the Dubai Public Prosecution, said he was confident of proving the pair had sex.
We have a very strong case, the Sun quoted him as saying.
We have DNA, medical reports and eyewitnesses. We also have his (Mr Acors) first statement, in which he admitted having sex with Michelle Palmer. He later denied this, he added.
The two, who are on bail in Dubai and could be jailed, have denied charges of public indecency and having unmarried sex but admit consuming alcohol.
We were just kissing and hugging. We didnt have sex together. I was lying on top of him, Palmer had said in a statement to the court at a previous hearing.
I have been in Dubai for two-and-a-half years without committing any kind of offence. Im sorry, she added.
They are due to appear before Dubais Court of First Instance on September 3, and if found guilty they could be jailed for between six months and a year, as well as being fined and deported. (ANI)
