British government departments lose one laptop or PC every weekNovember 21st, 2008 - 2:17 pm ICT by ANI
London, Nov 21 (ANI): British Government departments have been losing one lap-top or PC every week since the entire child benefit database went missing.
Figures uncovered by Tory frontbencher Grant Shapps MP show that in the year until the end of last month, Government departments lost a total of 53 lap-tops - a quarter of which belonged to the Department for Health.
Scores of other electronic equipment also went missing, including 30 mobile phones and 35 Blackberry-type hand-held personal organisers, The Telegraph reported.
The figures come a year after child benefit discs containing personal details on half the population vanished.
Ministers vowed to beef up security for confidential information but official figures show Whitehall departments have lost 53 laptops or computers since then.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families lost 13 laptops or PCs. Shadow housing minister Grant Shapps, who uncovered the figures, said: The Government remains incapable of keeping our data secure. (ANI)
