British authorities nab Mumbai train blasts accusedNovember 26th, 2008 - 5:56 pm ICT by ANI
New Delhi, Nov.26 (ANI): Authorities in the United Kingdom have repotedly detained a Mumbai resident on the premises that he was one of the masterminds behind the 2006 serial train blasts that claimed 185 lives in the metropolis.
Interpol had issued a Red Corner notice against Rahil Abdul Rahman Sheikh in May 2007.
Neither the Ministry of External Affairs nor the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), have officially commented over Sheikhs reported detention, stating that they are yet to receive official word from the British authorities.
When we receive a formal notification of Mr. Sheikhs arrest from our counterparts in the United Kingdom, we shall have to provide evidence to a court there to support our demand that he be handed over to India, The Hindu newspaper quoted an unnamed CBI official, as saying.
Maharashtra Police have described Sheikh, as one of the Lashkar-e-Toibas top operatives in India.
Originally, Sheikh was a resident in Mumbais Grant Road area and is thought to have come into contact with the Lashkar through the proscribed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), which he joined around 1999.
