Breach in Sirhind canal inundates large parts of Bhatinda

The 20-foot long breach has led to water entering over 800 houses in Parshuram Nagar and Partap Nagar town of Bhatinda district.

Indian Army’s engineering corps has been asked to repair the damage and provide assistance in plugging the breach.

“Bag stacking is going on the both the sides of the breach. SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) and police force are conducting rescue operation in the parts of the city where water has entered,” said Rajinder Singh, Sub Divisional Officer (SDO), Canal Department, Bhatinda.

Water has also entered the fields in the nearby areas damaging crops. The reason behind the breach is not known yet. (ANI)
