Mumbai, June 18 (ANI): Brihammumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya has promised to end the areas water-related woes by setting up a pumping station.

He said the pumping station will be constructed in the city’s Hindmata region.

Kshatriya, who visited the area along with Maharashtra Chief Secretary J. P. Dange, claimed that skewed ground level was responsible for the recurring problem of water logging.

“I came to find out the reason for water logging in this area. We found out that the position of the saucer placed here is such that the level of the ground over here is low compared to other areas,” said Kshatriya.

“The permanent solution is that we have to build a pumping station at Britannia Outfall, as water from here goes to Britannia Outfall and then flows into the Sea. We have to build a pumping station in Britannia Outfall just like the ones in Irla and Haji Ali,” he added.

“We needed more land for this pumping station and in this regard, the Chief Secretary had a meeting with the Mumbai Port Trust, and he has promised us to provide us land. We promise that after we get the land, people won’t be facing the problem of water logging in future,” Kshatriya claimed.

The city has received 60.77mm of rainfall since Tuesday, leaving the financial capital of India nearly stranded, as the low-lying areas of the city were all waterlogged, creating problems for office-goers and residents.

Water logging has also been reported at Dadar, Goregaon, Malad, Borivili, Hindmata and other areas.

Meanwhile, locals complain that water logging is a regular affair and blamed the BMC for failing to prepare for the oncoming monsoons.

“I have been living here for the last 40 years and every year we face the problem. With each passing year, the level of the water increases. We have got all sorts of machines over here to pump the water out. Though the BMC is doing its duty, the problem is not getting solved,” said Lakhubai, a local. (ANI)
