Bomb explodes at AGP candidate’s Jorhat home
March 12th, 2011 - 9:36 pm ICT by ANIJorhat (Assam), Mar. 12 (ANI): A bomb exploded at the residence of Dulen Nayak, a candidate of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) here on Saturday.
Local media reports said some unidentified miscreants hurled a grenade into Nayak’s house, but no one was injured.
Nayak said he suspected opposition leaders of being behind the incident.
He said that a wall of his house and a table had been damaged.
He said Jorhat Police is investigating the incident.
The AGP condemned the incident and called for improved security arrangements.
Assam will hold state assembly polls on April 4 and 11. In all, 126 constituencies will go to polls — 62 on April 4 and 64 on April 11.
The Election Commission has stated that 23,813 polling booths are being set up for the state’s electorate of 18 million.
Presently, the Congress party rules in Assam and a good performance may boost its fortunes in the next general election in 2014. (ANI)
