Bob Dylans greatest inspiration was Robert Burns poetry
October 6th, 2008 - 2:48 pm ICT by ANILondon, Oct 6 (ANI): Legendary singer Bob Dylan has revealed that renowned poet Robert Burns and his much-appreciated verse A Red Red Rose has been the greatest inspiration behind his acclaimed work.
Dylan, who has written songs for five decades, revealed to HMV as a part of “My Inspiration” campaign, that the poet has been the greatest inspirational factor behind his life and work.
Dr Gerard Carruthers, director of the centre for Burns study at Glasgow University, stated that Dylan and Burns both have a common way of approaching art as both are able to connect with people’’s lives through their art.
“Burns was a hugely committed artist who dealt with everyday emotions and big emotions so in that sense it’’s not a surprise he’’s influenced Dylan, Scotsman quoted Gerard, as saying.
“A Red, Red Rose is one of the greatest love songs of all time. It’’s a song that resonates down the ages. It’’s part of the Burns song canon. It’’s one of his most emotive and emotional, perhaps his biggest expression of love. It’’s very much about comparing love to the joyous things of nature and in the arts. It’’s Burns where he rejoices most in love. It’’s from the love gut, he added.
Dylan who credits Roberts poem for his great work has had huge hits like Blowin in the Wind and The Times They Are a-Changin” and many more.
“I imagine Dylan will still be loved in 200 years as much as Burns is, Gerard said.
