BJP Yuva Morcha protest over corruption in CWG preparations

Bharatiya Janata Party Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 3 (ANI): Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha took to the streets in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur city on Tuesday to protest the growing controversy and corruption over the preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

“Today, the workers of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Yuva Morcha (youth wing) have gathered here in a large number to protest the corruption taking place in Commonwealth Games that are to be held in Delhi,” said BJP Yuva Morcha President Rakesh Tiwari.

“We have come to know about many corrupt activities being done by the Government and this demonstration is to flush the truth out,” he added.

The protestors claimed that corruption is so rampant in the organization of the games that items like umbrellas are rented at Rs 6,308 per day, C.F.L. tubes at Rs 4,000 per day and electricity is being purchased at Rs 80 per unit.

They also demanded the Central Government to put an end to the corruption or else they would not the let the Games take place.

“If this corruption is not put an end, then we will go to Delhi and we will not let the Commonwealth Games happen. We will also not spare the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre,” said BJP Yuva Morcha General Secretary Mukesh.

India is expecting about two million tourists in New Delhi for the Games, as well as about 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states.

The Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held from October 3 to 14 in New Delhi. (ANI)
