BJP welcomes government’s stand on CTBT, NPT

New Delhi, Sept 25 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday welcomed the government’s firm stand against signing the CTBT and NPT, in the wake of UN Security Council (UNSC) passing a resolution calling upon all non-nuclear countries to sign the treaty.
Talking to reporters here, party president Rajnath Singh said: “The BJP is of the clear view that India should not sign the CTBT or NPT under any circumstances. India won’t attack in the first place. We have our commitment, which the world knows. We welcome the stand taken by the Indian Government.”
The UNSC passed the resolution on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by the US President Barack Obama, who emphasised on building a world without nuclear weapons.
India has maintained its stand and has clearly refused to abide by this resolution.
India fully supports curbing nuclear proliferation, but doesn’t support the NPT, as it views it as flawed and discriminatory.
Apart from India, the other two countries, which have refused to sign the NPT, are Israel and Pakistan.
India has formally declared itself a nuclear weapon state.
The BJP had opposed the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal last year. (ANI)
