New Delhi, Mar.25 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party walked out of the Lok Sabha today, over the Government’s delay in tabling the Shunglu Committee report, probing the alleged irregularities in the conduct of Commonwealth Games.
Senior BJP leader LK Advani raised the matter as soon as the House met for the day and said that the Shunglu Committee’s report had already been submitted to the government, according to media reports and that the Government should table it in the Parliament today itself and possibly have a discussion on it.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, said the Shunglu Committee was set up by the government through an Executive Order and its report was yet to be looked into by the government.
He ssaid: ” I will convey to the government through the Minister concerned and convey the feelings of the House. If any action has to be taken in the matter it would be taken.”
Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj was not satisfied with his response and said: ” Action, if required, will be taken is the government’s reply to every demand of the Opposition,” before leading the BJP walkout.
The Commonwealth Games were held in India in September 2010, following which a large number of scams related to its execution have been highlighted. Suresh Kalmadi, the Organizing Committee head, has repeatedly been interrogated raids have also been conducted in connection to the multi crore scam.
Virtually every company hired to provide services or equipment for the games was paid exorbitant amounts for their services and contracts were often handed out to companies that were ineligible. Several of Kalmadi’s close associates from the Organizing Committee have also been arrested in the last few months, in connection to the CWG scam. (ANI)
