New Delhi, Dec.3 (ANI): Activists of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest on Thursday here against the hike in the tariff of piped water supply in the city.
After hiking the fares of bus and metro, the Delhi government raised the water tariff upto two-and-a-half-times.
The BJP activists were joined by senior leaders like Vijay Goel, Madanlal Khurana and V.K. Malhotra in their protest.
The activists holding placards raised slogans against Delhi chief Sheila Dikshit and demanded her resignation.
“I feel that this government should be voted out of power, because till the time they are in power, they will continue to raise the prices like this only,” said Madanlal Khurana, senior BJP leader.
The new tariff will be applicable from January 1, 2010.
As per the new structure, the monthly charge for consumption of 10 kilo litres of water will go up from rupees 52 to rupees 82 from January. (ANI)
