New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to approach the Election Commission (EC) for indicting Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan of being involved in ‘electoral malpractices’.
The BJP wants an investigation to be ordered by the EC on the entire matter.
BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Monday that he would lead a BJP delegation to the Election Commission and ask for a high level investigation. Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said he would also be a part of the delegation.
“The Maharashtra Chief Minister has provided incorrect details of his election expenditure to the EC. He had spent more than what is allowed and submitted wrong details of his expenditure to the EC,” he said.
Naqvi added that the BJP would ask the EC to lodge a case against Chavan for electoral malpractices.
He said that as per the records submitted to the returning officer, Chavan had spent a little over Rs 5,000 on print advertisement. Then how did he manage full-page coverage in the newspapers.
Chavan won the Bhokar assembly seat in the recently conducted Maharashtra elections. (ANI)
