BJP conclave begins in Indore
February 17th, 2010 - 12:54 pm ICT by ANI
Indore, Feb 17 (ANI): A three-day meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s National Council and National Executive has begun in Indore from today.
The Indore conclave is significant for the BJP as it is expected to mark the beginning of a new strategy for the main opposition. The party has suffered two consecutive defeats in the Lok Sabha elections and has seen a generation leap with Nitin Gadkari taking charge as the new BJP President.
BJP leaders are expected to introspect and think of a strategy to make the organisation more effective and to broaden the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Today’s meeting is the first meeting of the National Council after the defeat in the May 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
The party has recently witnessed a generational shift with BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani being made the Parliamentary Party Chairman, a move that indicates that he has taken a backseat.
Bringing in Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley as Leaders of the Opposition in the LokSabha and the Rajya Sabha respectively is also a move that indicates the BJP is now planning for the future. (ANI)
