Bihar Police arrest journalist in BJP MLA murder case
January 6th, 2011 - 5:27 pm ICT by ANI Purnea (Bihar), Jan 6 (ANI): The murder case of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Raj Kishore Kesri took a new turn on Thursday with the police arresting Navlesh Pathak, the editor of a local English weekly ‘Quisling’, who had for the first time reported the sexual harassment complaint of Rupam Pathak.
The police action came following an FIR filed in the K-Hat police station here against the editor and the woman Rupam Pathak, who stabbed the MLA in full public view on Tuesday.
“Kesri’s nephew Sudip Kesri lodged an FIR with the K-Hat police station in Purnia against Rupam Pathak, who was arrested soon after she stabbed the MLA to death, Navlesh Pathak, editor of an English weekly and an unknown person last night,” said DIG (Purnia range) Amit Kumar.
“The police is yet to identify the third person in the FIR,” he added.
The DIG further said there were two different aspects involved in the case.
“The killing of the MLA was separate from the complaint of the woman who stabbed him to death. The investigation is going on in full swing in the case. The FIR by the slain MLA’s relative also says there is a conspiracy behind the murder,” he said.
A charge sheet in the case is likely to be filed in ten days.
Meanwhile, the family members of the journalist alleged that police was biased in its inquiry and apprehended a threat to him in custody.
Rupam Pathak, a teacher in a private school, who stabbed the MLA during his ‘Junta Darbar’ on Tuesday morning, had accused him of raping her on different occasions over the last three years. (ANI)
