BCCI to re-constitute disciplinary panel
December 11th, 2010 - 12:21 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold a special meeting today to reconstitute the panel looking at charges of financial irregularities against former Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman Lalit Modi.
On November 22, Modi’s counsel Mehmood Abdi had said that the three-member disciplinary panel did not have the BCCI General Body’s mandate.
Abdi also alleged that the BCCI had forgotten to re-constitute the Committee for the year 2010-2011 at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in September.
“As for us, therefore, there is no disciplinary committee in existence as this panel does not enjoy the mandate of the GBM as required by BCCI constitution. There was no reconstitution, re-nomination or formation of the disciplinary body,” he said.
Abdi said the members of the Disciplinary Committee were aware of this factual position since September 29 as they were all present in the AGM meeting held on that date.
“Members of the committee should not have proceeded in the matter and should have disclosed this fact to us earlier,” Abdi said, adding that the conduct of the BCCI was unfair and has caused serious prejudice to Modi.
The panel comprises of Chirayu Amin, Arun Jaitley and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Modi’s camp had consistently opposed Amin and Jaitley’s nomination citing bias, despite the fact that both were members of the IPL Governing Council when it was headed by Modi. (ANI)
