BCCI criticizes ICC official on UDRS issue
March 2nd, 2011 - 9:59 pm ICT by ANIMumbai, Mar 2 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday criticized International Cricket Council (ICC) General Manager Dave Richardson after the later advised Indian skipper M S Dhoni to read the rules related to Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) before questioning the implementation of technology during the matches.
The BCCI in a letter to the ICC said: “Richardson’s comment that the Indian Captain should know the rule is out of place. The Indian captain only highlighted the inadequacy of the system and rightly so. It was there for the world to see.”
“For ICC’s representative to criticise a player for his post-match press conference while the World Cup is being played tantamount to pressurising the player. Richardson has no right to do so. BCCI has strong reservations about the statement made by Richardson. He should be instructed not to react in this fashion,” the BCCI added.
Dhoni, who is not in favour of using the Umpire Decision Review System, had posed a question mark over the system following the controversy surrounding Ian Bell’s decision in India’s World Cup tie against England at Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.
UDRS is being used for the first time in this World Cup. (ANI)
