Basu requests Singur land-losers to accept compensation package
September 19th, 2008 - 7:23 pm ICT by ANI - Send to a friend: Kolkata, Sept 19 (ANI): Former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu on Friday requested the Singur protesters, who have been refusing to accept the land compensation package offered by the State Government, to accept it and allow resumption of work at the TATA Motors Nano car plant.
State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxists) Biman Bose briefed Basu about the partys state secretariat meeting earlier in the day at the party office.
In a statement, Basu said: “To enable the small car project to materialise, the State Government recently announced a compensation package for the farmers who have given land. I appeal to all concerned to accept the package and allow the project to come up,”
He further appealed to those who are opposing the project to rise above politics and cooperate with the Government in allowing the project to come up in the interest of the people of the state.
The veteran Marxist leader was discharged from hospital on Tuesday after he was admitted to a nursing home on September 7 with a head injury following a fall at his residence.
He termed the Nano car project as very important for economic development of the state, adding that once the project becomes operational, it will increase employment by attracting more investments.
Basu reiterated that the development of the state should be the desire of everybody irrespective of political affiliation. (ANI)
