Bangalore hosts walkathon to promote use of solar energy
November 28th, 2009 - 8:19 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Bangalore, Nov 28(ANI): To highlight the importance of solar energy in a day-to-day life, a Non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Bangalore organized a walkathon on Saturday.
The main purpose of the walkathon was to popularize solar energy and create awareness among the people about renewable energy segments.
Display of unique and attractive solar caps marked the walkathon to draw the attention towards the benefits of using solar, wind, tidal and other non-conventional energies.
“The problem what we are facing nowadays is the electricity problem. So, we are creating awareness about solar energy because Government is also planning to do a lot of awareness saying that one in every three houses has to be solar, so that it can be alternative energy. Coming to this alternative energy it is beneficial for people. That is all I can say,” said Ramesh S, organiser of the Walkathon.
Amlu Udayana, a participant in the Walkathon, said that energy crisis is a big impediment in the growth of the economy, and solar energy could be seen as the best answer for all the needs.
“Our forests are going down and we have no rains and then there is this melting which is going on. So, when we have got the opportunity to have this bright sun, we can tap energy out of it and wind, why not?” Amlu Udayana said. (ANI)
