Ban on some SMS services lifted in Kashmir
December 22nd, 2010 - 9:17 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, Dec 22 (IANS) Authorities Wednesday decided to lift the ban on SMS services on post-paid mobile phones in Jammu and Kashmir.”The ban … has been lifted,” an intelligence official said here.
This would be extended to pre-paid mobile phones only after the verification of mobile phone subscribers now under way is completed, said the official.
All SMS services were banned in the Kashmir Valley for security reasons after massive protests that broke out June 11 paralyzed life in the region for over four months.
SMS services were banned after separatists used them to publicise their protest campaigns.
