Bharatiya Janata Party New Delhi, Dec 7 (ANI): Senior Communist leader Gurudas Dasgupta on Monday said the Babri Mosque demolition was meticulously planned and opined that it could not have been prevented.

Initiating the debate on Liberhan Commission in the Lok Sabha, Dasgupta said: “I am ashamed to say that the demolition was a result of a meticulous planning.”

Speaking further Dasgupta asked the government: “Why the disaster could not be prevented? Why the criminals could not be held in jail? Why did the political system fail.”

In his address, Dasgupta also recalled a 1992 Lok Sabha debate in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani was quoted to say that he wanted to shift the disputed structure and not its demolition in the process to rebuild Ram temple.

The two-day debate in the lower house of the parliament began on Monday just a day after the 17th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition.

Justice M S Liberhan named 68 people as responsible for the demolition including Advani and former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee. (ANI)
