Attack at CPI-M office an assault on democracy: Veerappa MoilyMarch 9th, 2008 - 6:53 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, Mar 9 (ANI): Coming down heavily on the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) for attacking the office of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Congress senior leader Veerappa Moily on Sunday said that the attack was an assault on the democracy of the country.
Attacking a political party is not a small thing, you know this is really an attack and assault on the democracy, Moily, who is also the chairperson of the second Administrative Reforms Commission, told reporters.
People who do not believe or they do not have faith in democracy can only do this and they have been doing it right from the inception of democracy, he added.
Moily, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka also said that the RSS has not changed an inch with regard to the atrocities they commit on a democratic party.
Commenting on the reports over the laxity of security arrangement at the CPI-M office, he said: It is the duty of the police to see that they (perpetrators) are handled firmly and dealt with law so that in future all over the country they will not make such an attempt.
At least 10 CPI-M workers were injured and the party office was extensively damaged in the attack.
It may be recalled that the BJP and RSS have collectively stepped up their offensive against the CPI-M led Left Front Government and the Kerala Police charging them with conspiring to eliminate political enemies in Kannur district of Kerala.
The Kannur district of Kerala is witnessing clashes between the CPI-M and BJP-RSS workers and seven lives have been lost since Wednesday.
Kannur is said to be a Left Front bastion and the RSS is believed to have been trying to make inroads in the past few weeks, resulting in tension in the area. (ANI)
