Assamese youth develops a gearless two-in-one carJanuary 17th, 2008 - 3:59 pm ICT by admin
Guwahati, Jan.17 (ANI): n Assamese youngster has developed a hybrid car without gears that runs on solar power as well as petrol. It causes minimum pollution.
Developed by Kanak Gogoi of Guwahati, Kanso has a 100-cc engine powered by four solar panels generating 320 watts of energy.
“The car (Kanso)runs on both solar energy and petrol. During the daytime, one can run it on solar power, and then you can switch on to the battery mode. After this, one can use the petrol mode. An interesting feature is that after the car is run on petrol for about an hour, the batteries get recharged,” said Kanak Gogoi.
He claims that Kanso can be driven at a maximum speed of 40 kilometres per hour and would be useful for the traffic-snarled roads of the hilly region.
Though it cost rupees 200,000 (5,029 dollars) to develop Kanso, Gogoi believes that the production cost can be reduced substantially if it is manufactured by a company with a good infrastructure.
A U.S-based organization, Centre Bits and Atom, has reportedly expressed its intent to provide financial assistance to Gogoi to set up a laboratory to conduct further studies on his innovations.
Gogoi says that there is no alternative but to produce environment-friendly vehicles, as the present oil and gas run automobiles are heavily polluting the environment.
The auto-making journey of the youngster and his tryst with innovations started way back in 1996 when he set up a garage in his home. Today, Gogoi has plans to get a patent for the car. He plans to display it in the Auto fair that starts from February 28 in Guwahati.
On the other side, the Tata Motors recently launched 4-seater Nano has a 625cc engine and is claimed to conform to Euro-IV emission norms. Nano has drawn attention the world over for its advanced features accompanied by a low price tag of 100,000 rupees (2,500 dollars) — about half the cost of the cheapest car in the current Indian market.
Today Gogois Kanso may not be anywhere near to Tatas Nano, but it still has the potential of becoming another dream car. (ANI)
