Arunima shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre
April 18th, 2011 - 10:16 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Apr 18 (ANI): Volleyball player Arunima Sinha, who lost her leg after being thrown out from a running train near Bareilly last week, has been moved to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre here after it was detected that her amputated left leg had been infected and swollen.
The developments came after Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken paid a visit to Lucknow’s CSM medical university earlier in the day to meet Arunima.
Maken earlier today promised to bear Arunima’s medical expenses.
The Sports Minister said he had asked the ministry officials to ensure Arunima received Rs. 2,00,000 for her treatment.
“I have asked the sports ministry officials to ensure that the Rs two lakh medical treatment, which we have promised earlier should reach her. I am going there with a team of doctors and we will see to it, if it is possible or if it is required, we will bring her to Delhi,” Maken told reporters on the sidelines of a function in the national capital.
Maken had earlier on April 14 announced a medical compensation of Rs. 2,00,000 for Arunima.
“If everything is going on fine there, then we will leave her in the hospital at Lucknow, but whatever treatment expenses would be for her, the sports ministry is going to bear,” he added.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Sports Minister Ayodhya Pal Singh, who met Arunima earlier this morning, offered a government job to her.
23-year-old Arunima lost her leg after she was pushed from the Padmavat Express in Bareilly on April 11 by three men, who were trying to rob her.
The incident took place between Chenati and Bareilly railway stations when she was on her way to New Delhi to appear in a CISF recruitment examination.
The police had lodged an FIR under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 393 (attempt to robbery).
Arunima was earlier undergoing treatment at the Bareilly District Hospital, where she was admitted on April 12. (ANI)
