Arsenic in ground water exceeding prescribed limit in UP and Bihar: Vincent Pala
July 9th, 2009 - 9:43 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, July 9 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent Pala, on Thursday informed the Lok Sabha that arsenic found in ground water from several districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has been reported to be way above the prescribed limit.
“Arsenic in ground water exceeding prescribed limit of 10 parts per billion (ppb) has been reported from some parts of 28 districts of Uttar Pradesh and 15 districts of Bihar,” Pala stated in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.
Pala was asked a question regarding a report suggesting threat of arsenic contaminated water spreading across 31 districts of Uttar Pradesh and 12 districts of Bihar.
Replying to the question, Pala stated that as per report of Uttar Pradesh ‘Jal Nigam’, a survey of arsenic contamination of ground water was carried out in 51 districts of the state with the guidance of UNICEF. And the survey has revealed that some parts of 28 out of 51 districts in the state have been affected by arsenic contamination. (ANI)
