Army Inter Command Basketball Championship kicks off in New Delhi
July 7th, 2010 - 7:07 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, July 7 (ANI): The Army Inter Command Basketball Championship for the year 2010-11 will be held in 1 Army Headquarter Signal Regiment Indoor Basketball Mercury Stadium at the Rao Tula Ram Marg in New Delhi from July 7 to July 10.
The finals of this Championship will be held on July 10.
The finals will be attended by a host of dignitaries from the Indian Army and the Basketball Federation of India.
Being biennial this is a very prestigious event in the Army Sports calendar. The best of the players both international and national and employed in the army participates to win the coveted title.
The best players in this championship will be selected for the Army Red and Army Green Basketball team that will participate in the 60th Inter Services Basketball Championship to be held in Mumbai in August.
1 Army Headquarter Signal Regiment is the Nodal Centre for Army Basketball as well as Services Basketball teams.
This Unit is responsible for conducting the Army championships and coaching camps viz. Delhi Area, Western Command, Army Inter Command and Services Basketball Championships and camps.
The state of art Mercury Stadium developed by the unit with assistance from the Army Sport Control Board is the one of its kind indoor wooden floor arena in the country providing the much needed all weather infrastructure for training of the players.
The reputation of the unit reached its zenith when it was nominated to host an international Basketball championship wherein the teams from Bangladesh Air Force and Indian Air Force played with each other. (ANI)
