Arms, gadgets stolen by Maoists recovered in Jharkhand
September 16th, 2010 - 12:51 pm ICT by ANIRanchi, Sep 16 (ANI): Jharkhand Police have recovered weapons including a thermal imager stolen by Maoist rebels here on Wednesday.
In a joint operation launched by state police and the Central Reserve Police Force, security forces recovered the cache from a hideout in Jaigra village under the jurisdiction of the Bundu police station.
Most important part of the recovery was a thermal imager, which can locate objects at night two kilometers away.
“In 2009 in a gun battle between the joint security forces and Maoists, five solders died and some of our arms and ammunition were stolen. The most important among the arms was a thermal imager worth (Rupees) 2.5 million, it is a sophisticated instrument only available with the paramilitary CRPF,” said Praveen Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi city.
Besides a thermal imager, three landmines planted on the road, around 400 metres of wires, one bulletproof jacket, live cartridges, medicines and other incriminating materials were also recovered.
In the last two months, Jharkhand Police have recovered more than 15 landmines in Ranchi and Khunti districts. (ANI)
