Armed militants rob people in Imphal
December 25th, 2010 - 4:28 pm ICT by ANIManipur, Dec.25 (ANI): Unidentified armed militants robbed people at gunpoint in here recently.
“We were scared and handed over our cell phones. They then wanted other valuables and broke open our cupboards. We are still scared,” said Promila Devi, wife of owner.
Police has registered a case and a manhunt has begun to track the culprits.
The incident has provoked anger amongst the people in area.
The apex body of women, Apunba Lup, organized a sit in protest in coordination with the Maklang Road Atheletic Union (MRAU) Victims in the area to condemn the incident.
“Whatever was done is wrong and we feel so helpless. It is like we are being tortured and these people keep on intimidating us and taking money from us. I feel these people are not one of us,” said Kanta Singh, President of the Maklang Athletic Union.
The protestors urged the militants to spare the common people and stop threatening them so that they could live in peace.
“Militants do not respect, love even their own mother, brother and sisters. They think only for themselves. We are not happy for what they have done to us,” said Bino Devi, a protestor.
Manipur has nearly 30 militant groups operating in the region, which often resort to extortion, abduction and bomb blasts. All this not only affects the people but also the development and progress of the region. (ANI)
