March 5th, 2011 - 8:38 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Mar 5(ANI): Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi on Saturday said that the country’s political system as well as the Congress party has suffered a great jolt with the demise of former Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh.
Singh, who was admitted at New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), died of a heart attack yesterday. He was 81.
“Congress Working Committee (CWC) expresses deep grief at the death of Arjun Singh. Arjun Singh’s death is not only a loss for the Congress, but also a great loss to the Indian politics. His strength in politics was also accepted by his opponents,” Dwivedi said.
Arjun Singh is survived by his wife Saroj Devi, two sons- Ajay and Abhimanyu and daughter Veena.
He was the Union Human Resource Development Minister from 2004 to 2009, and was the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister when the Bhopal gas tragedy occurred in December 1984.
