Archery Association of India to schedule more competitions before Asiad
May 22nd, 2010 - 9:21 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, May 22 (ANI): Archery Association of India president V K Malhotra on Saturday said that more tourneys and events would be organized for the national archery team to enable its members to acquire the much needed competitive edge for the Asian Games to be held in China.
Addressing the media here, Malhotra said that apart from the senior, junior and the sub-junior championship, there would a mini and Federation Cup to accommodate all participants.
“There are senior, junior and the sub-junior championships now. Apart from these championships, we have decided to include one cadet or mini championship and one Federation Cup, which will be open to all. Anybody can participate in these championships. Many states complained that though there are many archers from their states but only three could participate in these championships,” said Malhotra.
He further said that categories under the archery games would also be elaborated to make the participation in the championship more flexible.
“This senior national championship should be divided into three parts. The re-curve, compound and the Indian style should be divided into three parts, as when these three are merged together, the number of participants increase due to which the problems occur,” said Malhotra.
The sixteenth Asian Games also known as the XVI Asiad are to be held in Guangzhou in China from November 12 to 27 this year.
Guangzhou will be the second Chinese city to host the games after Beijing in 1990.
About forty-two events are scheduled for this edition of the ASIAD. (ANI)
