London, Oct 21 (ANI): American actress Anne Hathaways ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri did not deserve to be shown any leniency for cheating investors, the prosecutors in his case told a judge.
In the court papers submitted, the prosecutors claimed that the Italian businessman deserved more than the four years in prison he had promised to serve when he pleaded guilty.
The case against 30-year-old Follieri, who is to be sentenced on October 23, is that he duped investors of millions of dollars, and into believing that he could buy Catholic property at bargain prices.
According to the prosecutors, Follieri said that he had family connections to the Vatican and could take advantage of a church weakened by sex-abuse scandals, the Telegraph reported.
The money he got from the investors was used for spending on a lavish lifestyle, including a 37,000 dollars-per-month Manhattan apartment.
Hathaway, 25, ended her four-year relationship with the Italian-American businessman in June, when his charity came under investigated by the New York State Attorney General’’s Office. (ANI)
